Withered Roses

Withered Roses

The roses have withered
The violets are dead
And all that I’ve left are
The pleas that I’ve plead

But words go unheard
When they fall on deaf ears
And eyes once dry form
A fountain of tears

Each one a reminder
Of happiness lost
Salt in the wounds
That sorrow has caused

Scars are the remnants
Of wounds yet to heal
Left by the words that
A viper’s tongue yields

The scars and the pain
Are all that I’ve left
And this baggage I’ll carry
From now until death
